34’ Luhrs Open What a Journey

About the 34’ Luhrs Open What a Journey

"What a Journey" is a 34-foot Luhrs Open — a fishing-first boat with the deck space and the gear to take six anglers wherever the fish are. Open-cockpit boats like the Luhrs trade cabin volume for fishing room, and that's the right tradeoff for a serious day on the water. Capt. Javier runs this boat, and his reputation in Cabo is built on knowing his patterns: where the current pushes the bait, which structure holds tuna mid-summer, when the marlin start tailing on the surface.

Onboard equipment is dialed in for variety. Downriggers extend the trolling options into deeper water columns. The fighting chair makes battling a 200-pound yellowfin a fair contest. Capt. Javier supplies rods, reels, and a lure spread he's refined over the years — light tackle for sierra and roosterfish inshore, medium for dorado and wahoo, heavy for the billfish bite. Live bait is included; ask about catching your own if that's the day you want. A head is on board for the inevitable.

The target list shifts with the season and Cabo's waters are remarkable for variety: black marlin, striped marlin, blue marlin, mahi-mahi (dorado), yellowfin tuna, sierra mackerel, skipjack tuna, wahoo, roosterfish, bonito, gray triggerfish, and even the occasional swordfish for those who chase deep. The day's strategy depends on the conditions — sometimes trolling light or heavy tackle, sometimes kite fishing for high-strike marlin action, sometimes drifting live bait over structure.

Six anglers is the comfortable limit, but four or five is the sweet spot for rod-time and mobility around the cockpit during a hookup. Strong fit for a group of fishing-focused friends, a multi-generational family with serious anglers, or a returning visitor who knows what they want. Capt. Javier's English is solid and he's a teacher when he needs to be — beginners welcome.

Book "What a Journey" when you want a captain-driven day with options. Half-day if you're easing in, full day for the real offshore experience and the species mix that has made Cabo a global angling destination.
